The TLDR (Too Long Didn’t Read) Version

Speedshield Technologies needed packaging that could protect their innovative AiVA safety camera during transit. They approached Imperial Cartons to design a solution that passed rigorous drop testing while being efficient to assemble.

  • Client: Speedshield Technologies – specialists in advanced safety solutions for industrial vehicles.

  • Problem: Existing packaging solutions couldn’t protect the AiVA camera to the required standards, particularly passing a 1-metre drop test while ensuring the camera remained fully functional.

  • Solution: Imperial Cartons designed and manufactured a custom insert that provided 360-degree protection using the right board grade to absorb impact. The solution required no gluing or complex assembly, reducing costs and production steps.

  • Outcome: The final packaging solution not only protected the camera but also improved stacking strength for transport. Speedshield Technologies received a reliable, production-ready solution that met all their safety and logistical requirements.

About the Client: Speedshield Technologies

Speedshield Technologies is an industry leader in innovative safety solutions for industrial vehicles. Their AiVA pedestrian detection system uses advanced AI technology to protect pedestrians in busy warehouse and distribution centre environments. By mounting directly onto forklifts, the AiVA camera alerts operators to the presence of pedestrians and intervenes to prevent accidents. As a company committed to workplace safety, Speedshield Technologies needed packaging that would protect this critical device during transit and ensure it arrived ready for use.

The Challenge: Meeting Strict Drop-Test Standards

Speedshield Technologies developed the AiVA camera, a cutting-edge, AI-enabled pedestrian detection system for forklifts. Protecting this device during transit was critical, with the key requirement being that the packaging pass a 1-metre drop test, ensuring the camera remained undamaged and operational. Despite searching, Speedshield Technologies couldn’t find a packaging partner capable of meeting this challenge, leaving their production schedule at risk.

The Solution: Tailored Protection with 360 Degree Support

Imperial Cartons’ in-house design team worked closely with Speedshield Technologies to create a packaging insert that offered complete 360-degree protection. We selected a board grade strong enough to support the camera while effectively absorbing impact, ensuring it would pass the required drop test.

The insert was designed to be simple to assemble, with no gluing or additional processes needed, making it both cost-effective and efficient for production. The entire solution was developed and manufactured in-house, maintaining full quality control from concept to completion.

The Result: A Reliable Solution that Delivers Every Time

Speedshield Technologies now has a packaging solution that ensures the AiVA camera arrives safely every time. The design not only protects the product but also adds stacking strength to cartons during transport, providing added value beyond the original brief. This outcome showcases Imperial Cartons’ expertise in developing tailored solutions that solve even the most complex packaging challenges.
